Manipur Landslide: Landslides triggered by torrential rains claimed five lives in different parts of Tamenglong town in Manipur in the early hours of Wednesday.
The landslides came to like the bolt from the blue following overnight heavy rains. As many as 7 seven people injured in the landslides have been rescued and admitted to Tamenglong district hospital.
While seven bodies of the victims who lost their lives in the landslips have been recovered, the two bodies of children are yet to be traced said District Deputy Commissioner to PTI news agency.
The victims include five children of a family and two other children have also been washed away by the flash floods.
A mother and a son were buried alive when earth caved in near their house. Chief minister N. Biren Singh tweeted expressing his anguish at the loss of lives.
“ I am deeply saddened to know that 9 persons have lost their lives in landslides which occurred in three places in Tamenglong town. Seven bodies have been recovered, while two bodies are yet to be traced,” the Chief Minister said in his tweet.
The Chief Minister added that rescue operations have been going on a war footing and security personnel is working round the clock where landslide struck.
The locals have joined in the ongoing rescue operations and are helping the victims reports said.
