Environmental clearance a smack to Congress
Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao has said that the Centre gave its final environmental clearance for Kaleshwaram project that will store 142 tmc and irrigate about 18 lakh acres and stabilize about 18 lakh acres in North Telangana. This project got all clearances and it is a slap on the opposition for moving courts against projects he said. He fumed at the opposition for creating hurdles to the projects. Though with persistent efforts we got all the clearances for the project such as first stage environment, hydrological, forest and others Harish said. He said that redesigning measures by Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao gave positive results to increase storage capacity to 142 tmc through Kaleshwaram project while Pranahitha-Chevella project proposal was for 16.43 tmc he added.
The minister who was in Delhi for last two days made strong efforts in this regard and got the final environmental clearance. The prestigious Kaleshwaram project will cater to irrigation needs in 8 districts of North Telangana and can make use of 8182 acres of forest land for the works he said. The Centre satisfied with state report on the project by offering Rs 723 cr to forest department for making use its land for the project works and taking all steps. It is an important project in the state to store 142 tmc to give waters to two crops though no rains for two to three years and will rewrite history in the irrigation sector by lifting waters from Godavari to other districts. A total of Rs 80,500 cr estimated for the Kaleshwaram project to irrigate crops in 13 districts.
He said that the project will irrigate 18.25 lakh acres and stabilize another 18.82 lakh acres by lifting Medigadda waters to shit to Annaram, Sundilla barrages and others. Harish stated that as per first plan is to irrigate two crops during shortfall of rains and second plan is to irrigate 8.2 lakh acres in SRSP and LMD ayacut tail end crops. Kaleshwaram and Mid Maner will be linked up as per plan in 2018. He said that Rs 1000 cr sanctioned for this to irrigate 16 lakh acres for two crops under SRSP.
